Rural Development generally refers to the process of improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in relatively isolated and sparsely populated areas. It has traditionally centered on the exploitation of land-intensive natural resources such as agriculture and forestry. It is a process of change, by which the efforts of the people themselves are united, those of government authorities to improve their economic, social and cultural conditions of communities in to the life of the nation and to enable them to contribute fully to national programme. It is a dynamic process, which is mainly concerned with the rural aeras. These include agricultural growth, putting up of economic and social infrastructure, fair wages as also housing and house sites for the landless, village planning, public health, education and functional literacy, communication etc. Improvement in the quality of life of rural people is the important agenda of rural development programme. Rural development implies both the economic betterment of people as well as greater social transformation. The basic objective of all rural development endeavors / programmes has been the welfare of the millions. Improving agriculture is a must for industrialization. But most of the people live in villages (70% in India) are illiterate. Rural development is needed to increase the education level of the majority of the population. It is needed to reduce the migration of people from villages to cities. It is hoped that the present edition of this book will be beneficial to all concerned of the society, in general and students, lawyers, advocates, academicians, human rights institutions, researchers and NGOs working in illegal trafficking field, in particular.
