About the book
The present textbook is intended as a course in the chemical protection of plants for students of higher agricultural educational establishments. It will also be a helpful guide for agronomists of all specialities, including agricultural chemists, plant protection agronomists, and agricultural specialists working in crop-growing conditions with the expanding introduction of chemistry in agriculture.
The general part of the book treats the classification of modern pesticides, the fundamentals of agronomical toxicology, the influence of pesticides on the environment, and also the sanitary and physicochemical aspects of pesticide application.
The special part presents a detailed physicochemical characterisation of insecticides, rodenticides, fumigants, as well as herbicides and retardants, defoliants, and desiccants, the features of their use, doses, periods, and ways of application.
Information is also given on biological preparations of bacterial and fungal origin, and on antibiotics used to protect plants against diseases.
The combined and regional application of pesticides is also dealt with because the use of combined formulations and mixtures of pesticides with a different spectrum of action on harmful organisms is the most rational and economical way of protecting plants.
