About the book
Mathematical methods of investigation are used in every field of science and technology. This requires that students, whatever the speciality, have a considerable theoretical grounding in mathematics and in solving practical problems. Mathematical analysis is the foundation of the mathematical education of scientists and engineers.
The aim of this book is to present mathematical analysis in a small volume without presupposing that the reader possesses a profound knowledge in mathematics, but, at the same time, without lessening the rigour of the reasoning or the variety of the chosen material. The text is based on lectures delivered over a number of year to students in the evening division of the Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics of Moscow State University.
The following topics are considered: real numbers, complex numbers, vector spaces, differential and integral calculus for functions of one and several variables, functional sequences and series, Fourier series and integrals, and elements of vector analysis.
